Nando's, the South African casual dining restaurant chain, famous for flame-grilled PERi-PERi chicken, will be flying its 2017 Griller's Challenge winners to South Africa, to represent Qatar at the Master Griller's Challenge. The competition held locally oversaw twenty-three competitors from the eight Nando's branches in Qatar.
The final challenge was held at the Doha Rugby Club, where the Nando's grillers battled out their skills and presented their juicy flame-grilled PERi-PERi chicken to a panel of three judges. Coming in 1st place was Mithun Ishan Maharalalage, from Nando's Hyatt Plaza branch, and 2nd place was Walter Palacpac from Financial Square branch, and have been awarded a 5-day trip to Johannesburg, South Africa, where they will represent Qatar among finalists from other Nando's markets worldwide to compete at the Master Grillers Challenge in October.
The Grillers Challenge is held annually, as a reminder to both employees and fans that Nando's is not only about the chicken, but also about the people that make it. Nando's believes in familial work environments, and strives to continuously provide fun opportunities where staff members can grow. The Griller's Challenge motivates and encourages staff to compete in the spirit of pride, passion, integrity and family. The challenge also provides the Nando's employees with opportunities to discover the world. The first Grillers Challenge took place in 2012, and every year Nando's Qatar rewards its top two grillers with a chance to compete in the Challenge.
