(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) AMMAN, July 19 (KUNA) -- The Syrian army has recaptured Rumailan village, 15 oil wells, and one gas field in Raqqa's southern countryside from the grip of the so-called Islamic State (IS), official media reported Wednesday.

Army units have carried out intensified operations against the terrorist group's hideouts and concentration camps in the countryside area, causing IS fighters heavy losses, a military source said, according to Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA).

The military forces killed a large number of IS militants and destroyed seven of their car bombs and four vehicles, the source said.

The Syrian army continues to advance in Raqqa's southern province and chase down fleeing IS fighters in the heart of Syrian desert, added the source. (end) tk.amm.ma
