(MENAFN- Jordan Times) AMMAN — Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research Adel Tweisi on Tuesday met with Hungarian Ambassador in Amman Csaba Czibere and discussed the results of the Hungarian government's Stipendium Hungaricum scholarship programme for the academic year 2017-18, according to an embassy statement.
Over the past months, out of the 1,200 Jordanian applicants, 400 students were selected by Hungarian universities to start their study programmes next September. Seventy of them for bachelor's programme, 219 for master's, 65 at PhD level and 43 for other programmes, according to the statement.
The ambassador thanked Tweisi for his ministry's "close cooperation" in selecting and nominating applicants, as well as facilitating some of the entry exams that took place in Jordan, the statement said.
He also expressed his appreciation for the support of Jordanian universities and organisations to promote the scholarship programme. Hungary has more than 50 partner countries worldwide in the Stipendium Hungaricum programme, allocating 4,680 places for the next academic year.
Jordan is the largest beneficiary of it, with 400 scholarships a year, according to the statement.
The programme offers free tution and medical insurance, as well as monthly allowances for lodging and living expenses.
"The hundreds of Jordanians already studying in Hungary under this programme are performing well, and they enjoy their stay in different university towns of the country. With the 400 new arrivals from September they form one of the fastest growing foreign student community in Hungary," the ambassador was quoted in the statement as saying.
