Jordan- Al Hussein Technical University, USAID to establish liaison office for business community

(MENAFN- Jordan Times) AMMAN — Al Hussein Technical University (HTU) on Wednesday signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) to establish a liaison office for the business community, under the USAID Jordan Workforce Development project.

The new facility, which will become operational at the end of September 2017, is tasked with 'sustaining a comprehensive relationship' between the HTU and the Jordanian technology business sector, a statement by the Crown Prince Foundation said.

It will also work to strengthen cooperation in a programme to train university students in business technology.

'The office is expected to provide responsive and mutually informative relations between the HTU and the technological sector of the local business community in order to redress a growing gap between the needs of employers and the pool of available, technologically-educated graduates,' said HTU President Labib Khadra in a statement.

Funded by USAID and located on the university campus, the office will work to synchronise the outputs of the education process and the requirements of the labour market and provide the university with the necessary information for scientific research and analysis of the business technology trends in the Kingdom.

'The office will contribute to 750 industrial job placements per year for university students and will also create effective and sustainable channels of communication with the business technology sector,' the university president said.

'The exchange of experiences between the two sides will enrich the role of the liaison office to achieve its strategic objectives,' he added.

Highlighting the strategic location of the office at the Business Park in Amman, Omar Al Qaryouti, chief of Party of the USAID Jordan Workforce Development project, explained that the office's location is 'pivotal' for creating an inspiring environment for students and strengthening communication channels with technology companies and business incubators.

The goal of the USAID-funded Jordan Workforce Development Project (WFD) is to create a competitive, demand-driven workforce development system that leads to increased private sector employment, especially for Jordanian women, youth and those living at or below the poverty line across Jordan. Job placement is the primary objective of the WFD project; the life-of-project target is 4,235 job placements, according to the statement.

Al Hussein Technical University (HTU), founded by the Crown Prince Foundation, aims to support Jordanian youth's pursuit of vocational, technical and applied education. HTU is set to open its doors for registration at the beginning of October this year, said the statement.
