The people's reaction to the Israeli occupation's closure of the Aqsa Mosque complex was nothing unexpected. It is perhaps the most sensitive issue in the entirety of the Arab and Muslim struggle with Israel.
This particular aspect of the Palestinian situation is indeed the frail threshold to an ruthless religious war, without end.
When it comes to it, passion typically prevails, and the authority of mindfulness and reason regresses.
For this particular reason too, the respective and concerned parties endeavour tirelessly to keep the religious endowments and sanctities out of the struggle. They seek without fail the preservation of people's religious rights.
This time, however, the Aqsa Mosque was in the heart of the turbulence, when a number of Palestinian fighters confronted soldiers of the Israeli occupation.
Naturally, the confrontation ended with sanctions imposed by the occupation, against thousands of Palestinians.
Jordan, as the Custodian of religious endowments and sanctities in occupied Jerusalem, found itself in a difficult position.
The public, placing massive weight and pressure on the Kingdom's role, does not have a realistic perception of the limitations of Jordan's capacities in Jerusalem.
Notably, these capacities were afforded to Jordan by the clauses of the peace treaty with Israel, nothing else.
The best thing Jordan can do, which is what the Kingdom has been doing for the years past, is to preserve the status quo in the occupied holy city. Maintain the standing situation until a resolution is found which ensures the establishment of an independent Palestinian state, whose capital is the holy city; Jerusalem.
The particular clause, which extends Jordan's custodianship of the Sanctities in Jerusalem was phrased into a thin crust over a mountain of pressures.
Since then, against all odds, Jordan succeeded in thickening this crust, enforcing it with a moral and ethical brace which Israel dares not break.
Meanwhile, it would be folly to ignore the facts.
One of these facts is, clearly, that Jerusalem, alongside the rest of the West Bank, is in reality under the occupation of the Israelis, led by a government of Zionist fanatics.
This, typically, tightens Jordan's manoeuvring margin, by a lot, especially in light of an such incidents as the one which took place at the Aqsa complex.
Outside of the contexts of the Araba Treaty, the Jordanian government has no authority to protect the occupied holy sites.
We need to realise this reality as we shout upon the government to annul treaties with Israel.
This is a pesky situation, and we're all address it.
So, if anyone here, in Jordan, has a practical, realistic alternative, which guarantees the protection of holy sites, let them come forward with it.
Many a holy site was smudged out by the Zionists. And thanks to Jordan's custodianship, millions of Palestinians are allowed to pray freely in the Mosque as well as in other places.
No party can demand of Jordan to hold its protective role of the holy sites while at the same time rejecting the Kingdom's solitary discourse and approach.
Just a few days ago, an Israeli writer for the Israel Today, a newspaper affiliated with Netanyahu's government, said that Jordan's only true role is diplomatic.
That is, he said, to turn the whole world against Israel and its authority.
This article was not written out of nothing. It was forged out of spite over Jordan's role at the UNESCO in favour of Jerusalem and Hebron.
Jordan went the whole ten yards to designate the two historical cities, as Palestinian heritage sites, purely.
In the meantime, the rest of the Arab World is in deep slumber, while Jordan struggles to remain vigilant.
One could ask no more of the Kingdom, for no more can it bear.
