Oman- SQU introduces Al Raha Residences for new students

(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) Muscat- Sultan Qaboos University (SQU) launches new student accommodation facilities for the newly enrolled male students in order to facilitate the educational process.

The new facility called 'Al Raha Residences' will be allocated to the new batch of students who are not residents of Muscat and hence not familiar with the new environment.

Dr Naifah bint Eid Suleem, assistant dean of the Student Affairs for Social Services at SQU, said that this initiative is part of the university's efforts to provide appropriate learning environment for its students. She hoped that the positive outcomes of such facilities would be reflected on academic performances of the students and participation in different activities. Al Raha Residences are provided by hiring apartments in collaboration with the private sector.

Dr Naifah hoped providing student accommodation would help students focus more on their academic side and thus reduce the number of students who fail in their first year.

Some students fail due to the lack of suitable accommodation and housing facilities. As per the new initiative, the university will provide a range of services including furnished rooms for about 1,200 students and transportation service by two trips per day.

The university also provides nutrition, laundry, free Internet, maintenance, photocopying, printing, study halls, entertainment, prayer rooms and health services. The residence will be ready for students by August 5.
