Jordan- Tadamon: 56% of 3073 Women Detained without Trial

AMMAN —AlGhad— According to figures obtained by the Sisterhood Is Global Institute/Jordan "Tadamon", 56 per cent of the women detained in Jordan in 2016 have neither been sentenced nor detained by court order pending sentencing.

According to the data Tadamon got from the Administration of correctional and rehabilitation facilities, 3,073 women were detained throughout the year 2016.

So far, 448 of them have been sentenced, around 14.6 per cent, 904 pending judgement, 29.4 per cent.

However, 1,721 of the women detained in 2016 are held under administrative detention, and they comprise 56 per cent of the total.

Notably, administrative detention in 2016, compared to 2015, has dropped by 16.1 per cent.

In 2015, 2,052 women were held under administrative detention.
