Jordan, Russia, US announce ceasefire in southwest Syria

(MENAFN) The UN Deputy Special Envoy for Syria confirmed that the ceasefire deal in southwestern Syria is a positive sign to development of Syria war, which might help prop up the political process aimed at ending the country's war after six years.

In Damascus, Ramzy Ezzeldin Ramzy told press: "This is a step in the right direction."

Earlier, the ceasefire announcement was made after meeting between US President and his Russian counterpart, and both parts had reached the deal with Jordan for the ceasefire and de-escalation agreement in southwestern Syria.

However, previous ceasefires failed to hold for a longtime, as it was not clear how much the soldiers in the area were committed to the deal.
