Jordan- PM, U.S. House of Representatives delegation discuss ties, region

Amman, July 5 (Petra) -- Prime Minister, Hani Mulqi, Wednesday, received a U.S. House of Representatives delegation headed by MP, Jeffrey Denham, and discussed with them Jordanian-U.S. ties and a number of Middle East issues.

During the meeting, Mulqi emphasized the strategic ties between the two countries, voicing the Kingdom's keenness to boost them in various domains.

He expressed Jordan's appreciation for Washington's continued support for the Kingdom.

The prime minister reviewed the repercussions of regional instability on Jordan, particularly the Syrian crisis as the Kingdom hosts 1.3 million Syrian refugees, which placed enormous pressure on health and water sectors.


He also spoke about reforms Jordan implements in the political, economic and administrative domains which would enhance services provided to citizens and investors.

The U.S. delegation commended Jordan's role, under the leadership of His Majesty King Abdullah II, to promote peace and security in the region and stressed keenness to boost bilateral ties between the two countries.

They expressed understanding of burdens Jordan shoulders as a result of hosting a large number of Syrian refugees, stressing the importance of supporting the Kingdom to enable it continue its positive role in the region.
