Pakistan- TransAction submits 'Transgender Protection Policy' draft to KP govt


(MENAFN- Tribal News Network) PESHAWAR, 05 July: The TransAction (Provincial Alliance of Transgender and Intersex Community) has submitted the first draft of transgender and intersex protection policy to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government's Social Welfare Department.
The Transgender Protection Policy draft will soon be passed in the provincial assembly.
While addressing a news conference at Peshawar press club, TransAction head Farzana Jan said that the aim of the policy was to end social stigma, discrimination and create opportunities for transgender and intersex community in every field of life as equal and productive citizens of Pakistan. 'We have made in-depth study of the problems being faced by the Transgender and intersex community in Khyber Pakhtukhwa and suggested suitable measures that can be taken by the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Government to ameliorate their problems,' she added. She elaborated that the policy call for reforms in hospitals, police stations, educational institutions and courts to ensure rights for transgender community.
Talking to TNN, Farzana Jan said: 'Everyone has the right to recognition everywhere as a person before the law. Sexual and gender minorities shall enjoy legal capacity in all aspects of life.'
