SOHR: Damascus bar blasts kill 21 people

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) AMMAN, July 2 (KUNA) -- The death toll from car explosions that ripped through Damascus on Sunday has risen to 21 people, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) said.

The number of fatalities induced by a trio of car blasts that rocked the Syrian capital in the wee hours of Sunday is expected to increase, as seven members of pro-government forces were among the dead, noted a statement by the SOHR.

Meanwhile, the Syrian government has yet to issue a statement on the loss of life, as images of the destruction caused by the blasts were splattered across national television.

The Syrian Interior Ministry said security forces tracked three cars loaded with explosives as they headed towards central Damascus, where two of the vehicles exploded on the airport road, while the third made it to the heart of the city, where the driver blew himself up.

The ministry also vowed to repel all criminal attacks and protect national security. (end) tk.nam
