Turkey slams silence over PKK's attacks on officials

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) ANKARA, July 3 (KUNA) -- Turkey on Monday blamed the West for "silence" over attacks launched by the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) against Turkish institutions and individuals, mainly the recent assassinations of two officials of the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP).

Speaking at a news conference, Turkish presidential spokesman Ibrahim Kalin said the United States and countries in Europe and other areas criticize Turkey for its war against PKK, while they keep silent over massacres and attacks committed by PKK militants.

He added it is a clear evidence that such countries adopt double standards policy in terms of countering terrorism.

"Whatever they say, we will continue to fight terrorism in the most effective way," he said.

"To take a step backward from this strong stance for the unity and solidarity in Turkey is out of question," he said.

Kalin's statements came after some PKK militants had assassinated two AKP's officials in two separate assaults in the cities of Van and Diyarbakir. (end) rs.hm
