Kuwait- Trump calls several Gulf leaders to discuss Qatar crisis


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) WASHINGTON, July 3 (KUNA) -- US President Donald Trump spoke separately late Sunday with King Salman Bin Abdulaziz of Saudi Arabia, Crown Prince Mohammad Bin Zayed Al-Nahyan of Abu Dhabi, the Amir of Qatar Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al-Thani, the White House announced.

The White House statement said that Trump addressed during the calls his "concerns about the ongoing dispute between Qatar and some of its Gulf and Arab neighbors." He reiterated "the importance of stopping terrorist financing and discrediting extremist ideology." The statement added that Trump also underscored "that unity in the region is critical to accomplishing the Riyadh Summit's goals of defeating terrorism and promoting regional stability. (end) Saudi Arabia, UAE, Bahrain and Egypt have accepted His Highness the Amir of Kuwait Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah's request to extend the deadline given to Qatar to respond to a list of demands within 48 hours.

In a joint a statement last night, the four countries said the extension decision came after His Highness the Amir of Kuwait's reception of Qatari confirmations. Doha is expected to submit its official response to Kuwait on Monday. (end) si.hb
