S. Korea to deal with Taiwan on fishing license

(MENAFN) S. Korean maritime affairs minister announced his country is in talks with Taiwan to buy fishing rights in its sea after their fisheries agreement with Japan had fallen through.

The minister of the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries said: "The negotiations with Japan have faced a big stumbling block," and he added: "We are in contact with Taipei to secure fishing grounds in Taiwanese waters to replace those near Japan."

Earlier in June 2016, the fisheries deal between Seoul and Tokyo had expired although bilateral talks continued to renew their agreement.

The minister announced that officials from ministry had met Taiwanese counterparts and they have another meeting next week.
