(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) BEIRUT, June 30 (KUNA) -- The Kuwait Red Crescent Society (KRCS) and the Qatar Red Crescent (QRC) on Friday signed two agreements to provide drinking water for Syrian refugees, and to help those who are suffering renal disease in east Lebanon's Bekaa.
KRCS's Secretary General Maha Al-Barjas signed the two accords with Rashed Al-Mohannadi, Director of Social Development at QRC.
They are part of the efforts the KRCS has been exerting to help Syrian refugees since the eruption of the Syria crisis, Al-Barjas told KUNA.
The Bekaa hosts many refugee camps on cultivated land, where no sustainable water resources are found, she added.
The KRCS and the QRC signed the second agreement with the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) to help provide health care for Syrian refugees who are suffering from chronic renal failure, she noted.
Al-Barjas noted that the costs needed to treat arenal failure patients are skyrocketing which most refugees cannot afford.
On his part, Al-Mohannadi said the agreements are part of the societies' efforts to assist Syrian refugees in Turkey. He urged further cooperation among the humanitarian organizations to help refugees in Lebanon.
Member of the Municipal Council of Saadnayel, a town in the Bekaa, Riyadh Sawwan, lauded the KRCS and QRC for their project.
The water plant in the town will help provide 40,000 liters of drinking water for 10,000 people, mostly Syrians staying in a host of camps in Saadnayel and neighboring areas, he added. (end) wsm.msa
