Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK) founder S Ramadoss on Thursday urged the Tamil Nadu government to withdraw its proposal for the construction of a memorial honoring the late chief minister J Jayalalithaa, stressing that it would send the wrong message to future generations, according to media reports.
Ramadoss said that because the Supreme Court convicted Jayalalithaa in a disproportionate assets case, a memorial would be seen as a 'symbol of corruption."

The Hindu reported that Ramadoss said in a statement that memorials are strictly for those who have held high moral standards in public life.
Ramadoss said he did not object to the concept when it was initially proposed by then chief minister O Panneerselvam because Jayalalithaa had not yet been found guilty.
He added that his party had earlier filed a petition demanding the removal of Jayalalithaa's name and portrait from offices in the Madras High Court.
