London: The State of Qatar has extended an invitation to host the seventh meeting for the board of the Global Community Engagement and Resilience Fund (GCERF), which is set to be held in September.
Addressing the sixth edition of the meeting on Tuesday in London, Dr Mutlaq bin Majid Al Qahtani, the Foreign Minister's special envoy for combating terrorism and mediation in conflict resolution, said Qatar's invitation to host the meeting was welcomed and supported by member states.
Dr Al Qahtani explained Qatar's national, regional and international efforts in counterterrorism and the best ways of tackling the root causes of violent extremism that leads to terrorism.
Dr Al Qahtani pointed to Qatar's strategy for preventing violent extremism, which is based on economic empowerment; finding job opportunities for Arab youths in more than 16 Arab countries; providing education for more than 7 million children in no less than 42 countries; adopting a policy of dialogue and understanding; and promoting harmony among societies, the Alliance of Civilizations and interfaith dialogue through its preventive diplomacy and peaceful settlement of disputes through mediation and positive efforts.
Qatar is the only Gulf and Arab country that co-founded and contributed to GCERF along with the United States, the EU, Japan, the United Kingdom, France, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and Netherlands.
