(MENAFN- Tribal News Network) PARACHINAR, 29 June: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Thursday announced Rs1 million as compensation for each family of the victims of the recent Parachinar bombing attack, which claimed at least 75 lives, however, the victim families have rejected the compensation.
The PM has announced the payment of Rs.1million for each family of martyrs and Rs.0.5 million for each injured of the blast.
According to a statement issued from the Prime Minister House, the Prime Minister has already issued directions to Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Zafar Iqbal Jhagra to ensure immediate payment of compensation to victim families.
Meanwhile, a large number of people have been holding a sit-in in Parachinar for the last seven days to protest what they see as government inaction after the bombings and against security forces firing on peaceful protestors who were protesting against the twin blasts. Owing to security concerns, all the government schools were also closed for an indefinite period. The protesting tribal elders have rejected the offered compensation, saying that they need to be recognized as human beings first.
The protesters said that the Premier had announced Rs1 million in aid for each of those injured and Rs2mn each for the heirs of those killed in the oil tanker fire in Bahawalpur city of Punjab.
The tribal elders also demanded the formation of a judicial commission to probe into the firing incident on peaceful protestors.
The protesters had also demanded a visit from the army chief and the federal interior minister. The army chief had reportedly attempted to fly to Parachinar, before being forced to turn back due to inclement weather.
