10 infrastructure projects approved to ease traffic in Delhi

Transport infrastructure planning body UTTIPEC has approved 10 projects including five crucial ones to ease traffic movement in Delhi.
Some of the projects include making Mathura Road and Bhairon Marg signal-free, extension of Ashram flyover till DND Flyway, and corridor improvement between Modi Mill flyover and IIT-Delhi.
Plans had halted in March when the ASI denied permission to build underpasses near the Old Fort.
A roadblock was smoothly overcome earlier

In March, the ASI denied permission to PWD for underpasses at Old Fort. Rules prohibit construction within a 100m radius of protected monuments. However, they were approved after PWD reworked the plan. The projects will be funded by the Centre.
New underpasses and new flyovers

Decongestion of Mathura Road and Bhairon Marg will involve construction of several underpasses, which will make them signal-free.
To make traffic to the airport via Outer Ring Road hassle-free, two new half-flyovers (in GK-II and Kalkaji) and another two-carriageway flyover (at Malviya Nagar-Outer Ring Road T-junction) are in plans.
A tunnel has also been approved through Pragati Maidan, connecting Mathura Road to Ring Road.
Existing infrastructure to be upgraded

That's not all. The Ashram flyover will be extended till the DND Flyway. This will ease movement especially for Kilokri residents. The existing flyovers at Sarai Kale Khan, Seelampur and Shahstri Park will be widened. Corridor improvement in Najafgarh and Sarita Vihar will also be undertaken.
Vehicular movement not the only focus
Non-vehicular
UTTIPEC has focused on pedestrian safety too, approving plans for their safe movement. Multi-modal integration has been approved at the Dwarka Mor, Jahangirpuri, Karol Bagh, Nehru Place, New Delhi and Shastri Nagar metro stations.
The L-G has asked agencies to explore options for non-concrete parking lots.
"The L-G advised to provide better traffic engineering solutions that help in removing chokepoints," a release said.
