Moroccan Terrorist Recruiter Arrested in Melilla


(MENAFN- Morocco World News) Rabat – In collaboration with Moroccan authorities, the Spanish Civil Guard officers arrested on Friday in Melilla Moroccan man suspected of being in contact with terrorist organizations including ISIS and Al-Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb (AQIM).

The person who has alleged connections with terrorist organizations is a 40-year-old man of Moroccan origin and Danish nationality, explained the Spanish interior ministry in a statement, nothing that the investigation leading to his arrest was carried out through"close collaboration"between the Spanish Civil Guard, Danish security services, Moroccan authorities, and Europol.

The statement explained that a total of 24 Danish companies have so far been identified as part of an international jihadist recruitment organizations responsible for sending at least 10 people of different nationalities including Danes, Germans, and Spaniards to conflict zones.

Investigators are now trying to determine the extent of the network. Investigations are being conducted to gather evidence of involvement of the individual arrested in internet recruitment activity for the benefit of terrorist organizations, the ministry said, adding that the cooperation of authorities from other countries will be solicited in the course of the investigation.

The ministry said that Spanish security forces had carried out or collaborated in the arrest of 218 suspected jihadist terrorists in operations carried out in Spain or abroad since early 2015.
