AUC Press donates Egyptology sets to local, international institutions

(MENAFN- Daily News Egypt) Aiming to support and enrich the national and international archaeological community, American University in Egypt (AUC) Press has donated some of its Egyptology books to local institutions, according to a press release.

The university distributed 25 volumes to national schools across Egypt and 17 sets for the Ministry of Antiquities.

'We were particularly pleased, in this round of donations, to be able to send 25 full sets of selected books to the Shafik Gabr Foundation for distribution to schools around Cairo,' said Nigel Fletcher-Jones, director of the AUC Press. 'We hope that this may help, in some small way, to inspire students to join the next generation of Egyptian archaeologists,"

'The donations to international archaeological institutions are part of a wider outreach effort by the AUC Press based on our commitment to enhance global communication in Egyptology and Egyptian archaeology,' Fletcher added.

The 17 sets are for the use of libraries of the Ministry of Antiquities and for the use of staff and instructors. These are an addition to two sets: one was sent to the library of the Theban Mapping Project in Luxor and the other to the Amarna Project library in Tell el-Amarna.

The donations to the international institutions aim to maintain good connections with them and provide them with trusted sources for the history of Egypt.

The institutions are Institut Français d'Archéologie Orientale (IFAO), Deutsche Archäologische Institut Kairo, Nederlands-Vlaams Instituut Cairo, Egypt Exploration Society, and the Österreichisches Archäologisches Institut Kairo, as Fletcher explained.

The donations also open a door for further collaboration between the AUC and international institutes. 'We are working with the IFAO, planning new co-publication and production opportunities, and we hope to expand this approach to more international institutions in the near future," he concluded.
