Italy says EU neighbors do not support in migrants' crisis

(MENAFN) Before European leaders meet in Brussels to discuss migration policy and other issues, Italy said that migrant arrivals by the sea were up by a quarter this year and chided EU partners over refusing to offer helping hand to migrants.

Interior Ministry confirmed that 71,000 asylum seekers were rescued from the sea during this year, which is more by 26% than the last year.

Marking the world refugee day, Italian Prime Minister Paolo Gentiloni said: "I'm sorry that not everyone, including in Europe, has shown the same willingness to take people in".

Earlier, European Commission started investigating legal case against Poland, Hungary and the Czech Republic for refusing to take in migrants under a 2015 plan to relocate them from frontline states Greece and Italy.
