Clashes in Central African Republic leave 42 dead


(MENAFN) In fighting between rival armed factions in Central African Republic, the Bria's mayor confirmed that at least 42 people were killed, a day after the peace deal which was signed to end years of disputes.

Maurice Belikoussou said: "I can say there are around 50 dead. There are 42 bodies that were taken to the hospital. There are also bodies in the neighborhoods that have not been picked up yet."

Witnesses said that housed were looted and set on fire during clashes on Tuesday, and the charity Doctors Without Borders said it received 35 wounded that it runs in the town.

However, disputes and clashes broke out in one of the poorest countries in the world since 2013, mainly between Muslim rebels and Christian Anti-Balka militia.
