Russian tourist injured in chase after stealing speaker

(MENAFN- Asia Times) A Russian tourist was injured when he tried to escape capture after stealing a HK$300 (US$38.5) bluetooth speaker from a Chai Wan shop on Hong Kong Island on Monday.

The 29-year-old was treated at Pamela Youde Nethersole Eastern Hospital after officers arrested him for theft following a chase.

A shopkeeper in Hing Wah Plaza had been showing the tourist the speaker moments before it was stolen at 1pm, Wen Wei Po reported. The 39-year-old shopkeeper chased the Russian who ran 300 meters to an area in front of Youth Square near the Chai Wan MTR station.

The tourist was injured when he jumped from a four-meter-high footbridge.

The Russian arrived in Hong Kong on June 15 on a tourist visa and was staying on Hong Kong Island, Sing Tao Daily reported.
