Swiss high court rejects Syria's request to exit sanctions list

(MENAFN) The Syrian central bank's attempt to be removed from a Swiss sanctions list was rejected by Switzerland's highest court.

The list was made to increase pressure on President Bashar Al- Assad, and it aims to keep the bank's assets frozen.

However, the Federal Tribunal said it had no grounds to hear a request by the central bank against a 2014 ruling by the Swiss Federal Administrative Court that kept the Syrian bank on the sanctions list.

This move aims mainly to protest Assad's treatment of civilians during his country's civil war, blocked Syrian central bank assets in neutral Switzerland.
