Morocco's DGSN Denies Police Officer Hit Lawyer in Meknes

(MENAFN- Morocco World News) Rabat - After a video was shared on Facebook purporting to show a police officer slapping a lawyer, the General Directorate of National Security have issued a statement denying that the aggressor was a police officer.

The video, posted by news site MICPRESS, shows a crowd pursuing a man while unidentified voices shout "Lawyer, go fuck yourself!" and "Go defend your mother!" At one point in the video, someone is heard hitting the man identified as a lawyer, but the camera's line-of-sight is blocked by the crowd.

Throughout the clip, police officers walk along with the group and do not appear to intervene to disperse the crowd.

In the video's caption reads, "In Meknes: security forces slap a lawyer. ‘Go defend your mother!' "

In its statement, the DGSN denied that the man had been attacked by a police officer, saying they had followed up on the incident with a "detailed investigation."

"The General Directorate for National Security denies that the person who appeared in video clips on the internet threatening a lawyer in the authority of Meknes is a police officer, refuting the accusation that alleged that the concerned individual works in the ranks of the national security forces," wrote the DGSN.

"The said person entered into a dispute with one participant in a protest, which developed into a verbal and physical attack, concurrent with the regular operations carried out by public security forces in the area."
