Kuwaiti youth boost their charity work in Ramadan

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) By Shareefa Al-Wazzan KUWAIT, May 30 (KUNA) -- Kuwaitis are always known for their devotion to charity work especially during the month of Ramadan. In old Kuwait, families used to set up Iftar (breakfasting) tables at their homes or mosques for poor people and this tradition continues until this day.

In a statement to KUNA's seasonal magazine Al-dereesha (the window), a number of charity campaigns organizers said that the majority of charity volunteers are youth.

Organizer of charity campaign "draw a smile" Bibi Al-Ayoub said that since launching her project six years ago, she noticed that youth under 18 years of age volunteered the most.

Youth's work in distributing food to the poor of different nationalities made them come closer to this category of people and further feel their suffering, she noted.

On her part, member of charity group "charity projects" Madhawi Al-Obaidan said her group distributes 40 kinds of food items to about 400 families in Ramadan.

She added that they also delivered about 9,000 Iftar meals to different areas in Kuwait during the holy month.

Meanwhile, member of Kuwaiti voluntary group (B9ma Q8ya) Zaina Al-Ahmadi said youth between the ages of 17 to 25 are mainly attracted to charity work.

During summer time, the group provides cold water and full breakfast meals to street cleaners, she said. (end) sw.tab.ag
