Number of mosques in Qatar at 2,000

Total number of mosques in Qatar has crossed 2,000 mark after the Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs received and operated 16 mosques, entailing a cost of nearly QR69m, during the first five months of 2017.
The Ministry yesterday announced projects, which were either completed or under construction in different regions of the country, including a large mosque in the Towers Area scheduled to open soon.
In a report released yesterday, the Ministry said that there are 76 mosques under construction in the various municipalities of Qatar at an estimated total cost of QR360m along with the Ibrahim Al Khalil Mosque in the Towers Zone in Dafna.
The Ministry has also maintained and expanded 18 mosques and Imam's accommodations in different areas at an approximate cost of QR1m, according to the report. The Ministry confirmed that all works were completed ahead of the holy month.
For this purpose, the Ministry took all measures and conducted maintenance work aimed at ensuring the comfort for the worshipers, including electricity, air conditioning, sanitation and other facilities.
Few days back, while announcing the completion of renovation and construction of 12 mosques, the Public Works Authority (Ashghal) said that it was expecting to complete an additional 10 mosques during second half of 2017.
