Afghanistan- Supreme Council withdraws support to govt

(MENAFN- Pajhwok Afghan News) KABUL (Pajhwok): The Supreme Council of Jihadi and National Parties on Wednesday announced withdrawing support to the unity government over failing to deliver on its promises

The council, a coalition of several parties was formed two years back. In a statement, a copy of which is available with Pajhwok Afghan News, the council announced parting ways with the government. The statement has been signed by many members of the council.

Jabha-i-Nejat Milli (Afghan National Liberation Front)'s spokesman, Sayed Ikhtiar Sabawoon, on Wednesday confirmed to Pajhwok the party had decided to cease supporting the government.

He said the supreme council's leadership members had consulted on the issue on the occasion of the Mujahideen Victory day.

He said the council's political committee had taken the decision of withdrawing support to the government during a special meeting. The council released the statement to declare its decision.

Sabawoon quoted the council leaders as saying the government had failed in honoring promises it held out with them and gave no value to their advice and suggestions.

He said the government instead of bringing reforms preferred compromise and as a result the number of corrupt people was increasing in the government day by day.

'These are concerns which are always shared with the presidential palace and with President Ghani directly and indirectly, but to no avail. The government hasn't even considered it.'

He said the council had been a strong supporter of the Change and Continuity team during the presidential elections and played a crucial role in forming the government. The council wouldn't support the team in next elections, Sabawoon concluded.
