Pakistan- Mashal Khan's chehlum observed in Swabi


(MENAFN- Tribal News Network) SWABI, 21 May: The chehlum for the departed soul of Mashal Khan was observed in his native town Zaida, Swabi on Sunday. Mashal Khan was lynched to death on campus in Abdul Wali Khan University in Mardan over blasphemy accusations.
The Swabi Qami Jirga had organized a ceremony on the occasion. ANP parliamentary leader in Khyber Pakhtunkgwa assembly Sardar Hussain Babak, former MNA Bushra Gohar, Advocate Lateef Afridi, PPP leader Liaquat Shabab, Raheem Dad Khan, Afghanistan's deputy ambassador Zardasht Shams and large number of people attended the chehlum ceremony.
A large number of people visited Mashal Khan's grave and prayed for the departed soul. They also laid floral wreath on Mashal Khan's grave.
A Quran Khwani was also held at Mashal's house, where his family members had gathered to commemorate the chehlum.
Speakers on the occasion said that Mashal Khan was innocent and declared him a martyr. They said Mashal Khan was murdered due to his intelligence. They also demanded exemplary punishment for his murderers.
Talking to the media, Mashal Khan's father Iqbal Khan reiterated his call for the arrest of the ‘real' perpetrators of the murder. He said that Mashal's murder was a huge conspiracy adding that the university administration's members were also involved in the conspiracy. He demanded to include the university administration's members in the investigation.
The police have so far arrested 57 people suspected to be involved in Mashal's killing.
Mashal, a journalism student at AWKUM, was stripped, beaten, shot, and thrown from the second floor of his hostel by a violent mob on April 13 which had accused him of blasphemy. No such charges have been proved.
