ATLANTA, GA - 16 May, 2017 - The Matriarch of the Atlanta Blues Scene for nearly thirty years, has passed away. Early on Thursday Morning, Ellyn Webb, ownerand operator of the world renownedNorthside Tavern, passed away at an Atlanta area hospice center after a courageous and dignifying journey with cancer.

Ellyn Webb, daughter of the original owner, hadbeen the proprietor of The Northside Tavernsince 1989. In 1992, a young musician named Danny "Mudcat" Dudeck and her met, setting forth what continues to be the foundation of blues music in the city. Thousands of music shows, celebrity customers, career starts and a family of musicians that play the place are the result of her kind, loving open doors to those who wanted to play.

The Northside Tavern is a dive blues bar, and Ellyn Webb wanted it that way. Mudcatand Ellyn brought the Blues and Blues Musicians to the city, and the rest is a history that continues to be written.

Perhaps she is known mostly by the musicians she adopted. An assortment of misfits and gypsies that have relied on Ellyn for a living, a meal and a drink. In memorial on his Facebook page Mudcat posted "She gifted us a safe harbour to be ourselves, to make noise and make friends. A place that celebrates our living culture, attracting mentors and seekers… and more than a handful of barstool poets." JJ Boogie of Arrested Development said in a Facebook post: "I made so many lifelong friendsand had years worth of incredible musical experiences and memories made," referring to Ellyn's influence on many musicians and the atmosphere for creativity she fostered at the club.

Ellyn was a generous supporter of the musicians she hired. Filling the stage every night of the week, she brought reliable income and a chance to show off their talents. Many found fame in music and film, starting off as shy participants in a Northside Tavern show

Ellyn was a loving, kind sister and mother as well. Her son, David, was a vital part of her life. Her brother Tommy was a close friend for life and will be moving forward with the legendary bar in her honor. Along with them, she adopted so many musicians, they are too many to count.
