Many critics and scholars believe that this novel is one of the best works of Conrad, who is considered a pioneer of modernity in world literature.
'The Secret Agent' is also believed to be one of the first works in English literature that seriously explores the subject of terrorism. In addition to that, it is considered one of the first spy novels of the 20th century.
The novel was adapted many times, as it was shown in theater and was quoted in films and several television series, the latest was on the BBC.
What makes Conrad's writing style and characters exceptional is that he explored the psychological depth of man because he relied heavily on his personal memory. His work was appreciated by the critics of his early days, and his novels predicted subsequent national and international disasters of the 20th and 21st centuries.
