IATA says laptop ban worthless

(MENAFN) IATA chief executive Alexandre de Juniac stated that the ban forced by the US and the UK over laptops in cabin baggage on some flights is not considered as an effective method.

He also revealed that the ban includes inbound routes on airlines operating out of 10 airports in the Middle East, North Africa as well as Turkey. However, The British ban is alike but applies to another airline.

On the other hand, the official posted "Why don't the US and the UK have a common list of airports? How can laptops be secure in the cabin on some flights and not others... especially on flights originating at a common airport?".

Furthermore, Alexandre de Juniac announced "The current measures are not an acceptable long-term solution to whatever threat they are trying to mitigate. Even in the short term it is difficult to understand their effectiveness. And the commercial distortions they create are severe".
