United Development Company (UDC), master developer of The Pearl-Qatar, took part, along with a number of shops and residents of the Island, in the 'Earth Hour initiative on Saturday by switching off unnecessary lights from 8.30pm till9.30pm local time.
Earth Hour, the largest climate support initiative of its kind, aims to draw attention to and raise awareness of the risks of climate change by encouraging participants to turn off lights for one hour on the last Saturday of March. Last year, 178 countries participated in the initiative.
Participating in earth hour comes within UDC's commitment to its social responsibility towards the local environment, evident by its efforts in integrating sustainable practices into business decisions and by adopting conscious methods in the management and recycling of waste on the Island.
UDC also adopts policies to ensure the optimal use of energy in all its projects, and organises events that aim to highlight environmental and social initiatives and concerns.
