UAE, March 23, 2017- As part of the celebration of the International Day of Happiness, and in line with the efforts to achieve its goals and objectives to provide a happy work environment conducive to creativity and innovation, the General Secretariat of the Supreme Legislation Committee in the Emirate of Dubai (SLC) has launched the pioneering edition of the 'Happiness Cup' annual contest, a quality initiative aimed at encouraging SLC personnel to develop projects and initiatives that promote the culture of happiness and positivity within the work environment.

The first edition of the contest witnessed wide participation from the SLC employees who were divided into six groups, and were requested to come up with ideas and creative initiatives that will help bolster employee happiness while creating a more positive and interactive work environment. Each group presented an innovative initiative, and later developed an integrated road map detailing its implementation. All submitted initiatives were evaluated according to standard criteria such as the effectiveness of the proposed initiative in achieving happiness for employees and promoting positivity amongst them, level of creativity in demonstrating the initiative, suitability of the initiative's implementation plan to the original initiative and applicability to all employees, level of cooperation and coordination demonstrated by the group, and suitability of chosen name for the initiative.

H.E. Ahmad Saeed bin Meshar, the SLC Secretary General, said: 'We recognize that our mission to create a distinguished legislative environment that supports the process of comprehensive and sustainable development in Dubai cannot be achieved without the move to promote the principles of happiness, creativity, and teamwork across our human resources--especially in accordance with the fundamental values of professionalism, communication, and the integration of efficiency. The SLC remains steadfast in its commitment to harness all its energies and optimum capabilities to reach its desired goals of creating a work environment based on the highest standards of innovation, quality, and excellence in performance.

'The 'Happiness Cup' contest fits squarely with the vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, to achieve individual and community happiness, as well as to consolidate the concepts of positivity and innovation--infusing it into both professional and personal lifestyles. We are looking forward to holding this contest annually as part of the celebrations for the International Day of Happiness, further serving as a strategic platform for new creative ideas and initiatives that are not only aimed at increasing the quality and productivity of work, but also at bolstering the morale of the SLC workforce, concluded bin Meshar.
