Melwood Announces Annual Spring Plant Sales

UPPER MARLBORO, MD, March 21, 2017 Melwood, a nonprofit organization that creates jobs and opportunities to improve the lives of people with differing abilities, announces its annual Spring Plant Sales. Sales take place throughout April and May with proceeds helping to fund Melwoods horticultural programs. Through the gifted hands of individuals with differing abilities, Melwood specializes in the commercial production of ornamental annuals and provide a wide array of therapeutic and enriching experiences for its employees and persons served.

A significant portion of the Melwood horticultural team consists of individuals with differing abilities who find it rewarding to see the culmination of the seeds theyve planted come to fruition through plant sales, said Cari DeSantis, president and CEO at Melwood.

Choose from a large selection of blooming flowers, including various colors and scents of Geraniums, hanging baskets, Heliotrope, Coleus, and assorted herbs.

Onsite plant sales at Melwoods Main Campus greenhouse, located at 5606 Dower House Road, are open to the public Monday through Friday, from 8:30 am to 4:00 pm. Visitors must enter the campus through the Administration Building before making their way to the greenhouse.

Melwood plants beautify the community and enrich the lives of people with differing abilities located throughout the greater Washington, DC region. In addition to selling to the public during the annual sales, Melwood holds horticultural contracts to grow and provide a variety of plants for the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, the HUD Building in Washington, DC, MGM National Harbor, and two garden centers: Old City Farm & Guild at 925 Rhode Island Ave. NW, in Washington, DC, and Pablo's Garden Center at 11941 Rockville Pike in Rockville, MD.
