Israel halts excavations in Jerusalem, immediately after uncovering remains of Jordanian martyrs


(MENAFN- Jordan News Agency) Amman, March 22 (Petra) -- Israel Foreign Ministry Wednesday announced it halted excavation works in the occupied East Jerusalem village of Sur Bahir, immediately after workers found remains of three Jordanian soldiers killed in 1967 war.

The ministry stressed in a statement that the Israeli authorities fully respect Jordan and its martyrs, adding that contacts were made to transfer the remains of the three soldiers in order to bury them in the Kingdom.

The ministry stressed that if the remains were harmed during the excavations, it was not intended.

It added that works were immediately stopped and the remains were sent to Abu Kabir Forensic Institute for further examination and to deal with them in a professional manner.
