Planning minister urges Canadians to invest in Jordan

Amman, Feb. 26 (Petra)--Minister of Planning and International Cooperation Imad Fakhoury urged Canadian companies as well as the Canadian private sector to take part in projects being carried out in the Kingdom to benefit from incentives offered to Jordanian exports to the European market.

Fakhoury made the remarks as he met with Canadian Minister of International Development and La Francophonie Marie-Claude Bibeau, who is currently visiting the Kingdom for talks on means to boost cooperation between Jordan and Canada in various domains.

According to a statement by the Ministry of Planning and International Cooperation on Sunday, Fakhoury urged the Canadian side to support Jordan's Response Plan to the Syrian Crisis (2017-2019).

During the meeting, the two ministers discussed preparations for the international conference that will be held by the EU in Brussels this spring to follow up on the results of the London donor conference.

They also reviewed mechanisms to sustain support during 2017-2019, increase support to the general budget as well as to the underprivileged in Jordan.

Fakhoury voiced Jordan's keenness to boost relations with Canada and thanked the Canadian government for the 10 million Canadian dollar grant that will be used to support the educational sector.

He also briefed the Canadian minister on the economic challenges facing Jordan due to the ongoing crisis in Syria, and on Jordan's reform process.

The Canadian minister expressed appreciation of efforts exerted by Jordan under the leadership of His Majesty King Abdullah II to address regional crises as well as His Majesty's efforts to achieve peace and stability in the region.

She also voiced her country's commitment to continue its support to Jordan to enable the Kingdom to address challenges facing it.
