Louis Berger has a contract with the Trust for the National Mall to act as the construction management representative on site and to assist with pre-construction activities. The $5 million project at the corner of 17th Street and Constitution Avenue is expected to begin in April and to be completed in late 2017.

"We are honored to be part of a project on the iconic National Mall that so many millions of people enjoy every year," said Tom Lewis, president of Louis Berger's U.S. operations. "Constitution Gardens is a beautiful spot and will become even more attractive and visitor-friendly with these improvements."

Constitution Gardens, which features a willow-framed duck pond and winding pedestrian paths, was established in 1986 in a proclamation issued by President Ronald Reagan. The gardens were dedicated to commemorate the 200th anniversary of the U.S. Constitution and are adjacent to the Vietnam Veterans Memorial and the Reflecting Pool.

Louis Berger previously provided design and permitting support for the project. Construction will include relocation and restoration of the nearly 200-year-old Lockkeeper's House, the oldest structure on the National Mall. The project also involves landscape and hardscape on the corner of 17th and Constitution that will provide a more visible entrance to the site. Louis Berger will provide an on-site representative for the trust and will ensure that the project complies with plans and specifications. The team also will document progress and provide general coordination between the project shareholders.

The Lockkeeper's House will become a new gateway for the restored Constitution Garden landscape. The project is made possible with private funds secured by the Trust for the National Mall. The Trust is an official partner of the National Park Service dedicated to sustainably restoring and improving the National Mall.
