Karwa installs first self-service transport card machine

(MENAFN- Gulf Times) Mowasalat (Karwa) has installed the first self-service machine for selling public transport cards (Karwa smartcards) at the Al Ghanim Central Bus Station.

This comes as a first step towards selling these cards electronically, the company has said in a press statement.
The machine is 'user-friendly and provides quick selling and recharge services for Karwa smartcards in 5, 10 and 100 denominations. Besides, Mowasalat will shortly introduce the credit/debit card payment facility for all types of Karwa smartcards - Classic, Limited and so on.
Mowasalat has a wide network of Karwa smartcard selling points, exceeding 300 selling and recharging points, and over 400 services provided through the Ooredoo self-service machines. In addition, the company has over 80 official distributors for recharge services.
This year, Mowasalat plans to install additional machines and expand its selling points by entering into contracts with more distributors, as well as provide advanced recharge facilities, the statement explains.
Mowasalat stressed that it was always keen to update its services and collaborate with the Ministry of Transport and Communications (MoTC) and transport operators. Recently, it collaborated to integrate feeder buses with the Qatar Rail system, which will cover all Metro stations in order to create an integrated transport system for the country in line with the MoTC's plans and Qatar National Vision 2030.
Also, Mowasalat works under the supervision of the MoTC to provide the 'best and finest services for the comfort of public transport users. This is done through periodic studies of current and future road networks to expand public transportation network coverage for all parts of the country, by adding new stops, increasing frequency, doubling the number of trips on intercity routes to reduce the average waiting time and meeting the transport demand for these routes.
In 2016, a total of 12.7mn passengers were recorded compared to 10.6mn in 2015, marking a 19% rise that was the result of efforts made to improve and develop such services, the company pointed out. Mowasalat is also planning to sustain the development of public transportation systems under the ministry's supervision.
Meanwhile, the statement noted that Mowasalat's counter at Hamad International Airport is open 24x7 at the arrivals terminal, providing taxi and limousine services, Karwa smartcard selling and top-up services as well as offering guidance and answering all transport-related queries of arriving passengers.
