S. Korea's population expected to shrink in 2032


(MENAFN) Government reports showed that S. Korea's population is expected to shrink in 2032 due to widespread concerns that the chronic low birthrate and aging citizens in the country.

Accordingly, fourth largest economy in Asia will likely to reach its population peak at 52.96 million in 2031, gradually rising from 51.01 million tallied at the end of last year.

The figures assumed that the current rates of birth, death and population change will continue.

The statistics agency said its latest forecast of the peak year of population was postponed by one year from its earlier outlook made in 2011, and that was affected by differences in the census data between 2010 and 2015.
