TUNIS, 7th December, 2016 (WAM) -- Arab police and security chiefs will discuss a UAE initiative to launch an annual conference for Arab women police during their 40th annual conference here, a UAE official said on Wednesday.

'The UAE floated the idea of the conference out of its belief in the vital role women police can play in preserving security,' said Major Amna Al Balouchi, member of the UAE delegation to the meeting, in a statement to Emirates News Agency, WAM.

Kuwait's Ministry of Interior has supported holding annually an Arab women police conference and a periodical congress on supervision and control, said a Kuwaiti official.

'The ministry supports organising the conference as it will help exchange scientific expertise related to security action, Interior Ministry's Director General of Coordinating Operations' Command for Internal Security Major General Mohammad Al-Daihani told Kuwait News Agency, KUNA.

He added that the conference on women police would unify efforts aiming to address problems of women and children from the security and social aspects.

Opened by Tunisian Interior Minister Al-Hadi Al-Magdoub, the conference discussed several topics on counter-terrorism, and setting a mechanism for boosting and accelerating sharing information amongst security apparatuses in this regard.

Representatives of the Arab League, the GCC, the International Criminal Police Organisation (INTERPOL), United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), Naif Arab University for Security Sciences and Arab Police Sports Federation are attending the meeting.
