(MENAFN- Morocco World News) Casablanca – Morocco planted over one million trees on Saturday November 12.

An Initiative launched by the COP22 Commissioner, Abdeladim Lhafi, to plant over a million trees in Morocco was successfully carried out on Saturday.

The High Commission for Water and Forests and the Fight Against Desertification carried out the national initiative dubbed 'Planting more than one million trees in one day' in an area of approximately 3,000 hectares.

310.000 indigenous species of plant that have adapted to climate change were used in this large-scale operation. This massive variety of plant species has also adapted to the different forest ecosystems in Morocco.

The High Commission for Water and Forests and the Fight Against Desertification engaged its entire regional and provincial structure to accompany and supervise the 46,752 Moroccans who volunteered to carry out the initiative.

210 different sites were reserved for planting the million trees. The volunteers succeeded in planting more than one million trees by 3 pm on Saturday.

This initiative , represents the beginning of a bigger national reforestation campaign that aims at planting over 40 million seedlings over 45,000 to 50,000 hectares.
