(MENAFN- Jordan News Agency) Kuala Lumpur, Oct.26 (Petra) -- Malaysian media outlets focused on tourism workshop hosted by the Jordanian embassy in Kuala Lumpur Monday in cooperation with the country's Tourism Board.
The Jordanian - Malaysian workshop was held with the participation of a large number of attendees representing Malaysian tourism sector as well as Jordan's tourism and travel agencies. The event was covered by local and foreign media outlets .
Participants at the workshop were introduced to the Kingdom's religious, therapeutic, and tourist destinations, and highlighted the country's security and stability.
Malaysian state-run BERNAMA news agency quoted Tourism Malaysia Director-General, Datuk Seri Mirza Mohammad Taiyab as saying "his country is looking at Jordan in its efforts to entice more tourists from the Middle East." He explained that since both countries were moving towards improving tourist arrivals, it would be a good time to target visitors from Jordan, which has shared diplomatic relations with Malaysia since 1965.
Touching on places to visit in the Kingdom, he said that Malaysians should see for themselves the major tourist attractions like the archaeological site of Petra, the Dead Sea and unspoiled natural locations like the Wadi Rum.
Another positive factor for bilateral tourism was when the Royal Jordanian Airlines (RJ), the Kingdom's flag carrier, recommenced its operations to Kuala Lumpur in 2010, he said on the sidelines of the Jordan Tourism Business dinner co-organized by the Jordan's embassy in Kuala Lumpur and Jordan Tourism Board (JTB), Monday. The airline suspended its operations in 2004.
With the recommenced three direct weekly flights to Malaysia, I think Jordan can be one good prospect to promote bilateral tourism," he added.
According to JTB, up to August this year, around11,030 Malaysians have visited Jordan while in 2015 the number of tourists who visited Malaysia stood at 17,562 .
