Egypt, Spain, New Zealand drafting UN resolution on Syria

(MENAFN- Jordan News Agency) Cairo, Oct. 23 (Petra) -- Egypt, Spain and New Zealand are drafting a resolution at the UN Security Council focusing on the humanitarian situation in war-ravaged Syria, Egyptian Foreign Minister, Samih Shoukry revealed Saturday.

In a joint press conference with his Spanish counterpart Jose Manuel Garcia-Margallo, Shoukry said the three UN Security Council Members are aiming to alleviate the suffering of Syrian people and provide relief aid to civilians.

The initiative by the three nations came after a French peace bid at the Security Council failed.

The draft resolution calls for a cessation of hostilities and finding a political solution to the conflict, Shoukry added.
