Lebanon detains terrorists planning attacks on UN peacekeepers

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) BEIRUT, Oct 20 (KUNA) -- The Lebanese General Security personnel have arrested a number of "terrorists" who planned suicidal attacks on the United Nations peacekeepers deployed in southern Lebanon, the department said in a statement on Thursday.

Eight Syrians, who were arrested after a search operation, confessed in interrogations that they had been assigned by a "terrorist organization" to plant bombs and supplied them with explosives-rigged belts to stage suicidal attacks on the international peacekeepers, who patrol a long stretch of land along the southern border.

"The terrorists" also told the interrogators that they had been ordered to hit tourist targets. (end) wsm.rk
