Yahoo's announcement regarding hacking of 500mn accounts has left its users worried. Many think it is breach of trust. According to Yahoo, the data stolen in 2014 includes e-mail IDs, passwords, phone numbers, date of birth and encrypted passwords. Experts say this is the biggest data breach that is known in the world.

Satish Kumar, a sales manager who is considering closing his Yahoo account said, 'I don't use my Yahoo account frequently but I use it as an alternate e-mail ID to retrieve or generate new passwords in case I forget them. I had Rediff and Hotmail accounts too earlier, but I stuck to Yahoo and Gmail as I trusted their credentials.

'However, this news is scary. Though I change my password every six months, I am considering closing it since I have been using my Yahoo account for official purposes which includes a lot of confidential information. I don't want to take any risk.'

Expressing his shock at the news, Mohammad Salim said this is breach of trust, 'After Dropbox and Yahoo, Gmail could be next. I wonder if this is real as 500mn is a huge number and it is bit strange that a tech giant like Yahoo had no clue.'

The Internet pioneer, which is in the process of selling itself to Verizon, has said it is 'working closely' with law enforcement agencies. It called the hackers a 'state-sponsored actor', though it didn't identify a country behind the breach. It also urged users to change their passwords, if they haven't since 2014. Changing passwords regularly is the best way to stay safe in the online world, said Tariq Hilal al Barwani, an IT expert.

'This is the biggest data breach ever. One must take ample precautions and the best and safest method is to change passwords frequently. However, nothing is 100 per cent safe in the online world.'
