(MENAFN- Morocco World News) Sheikh Mohamed Fizazi predicts a defeat for Morocco's Party of Justice and Development (PJD) in the legislative elections scheduled to take place in October.
'The PJD will lose many, many of its electoral strongholds. The party will regret its feverish positions on several issues,' Fizazi said. Fizazi, who is the Imam of the Tarek Ibn Zayid mosque in Tanger, took to the social media and posted his predictions on Facebook on August 29. 'Moroccans want a strong party with strong positions and that keeps its promises,' he said. PJD won a majority of seats in the November 2011 parliamentary election and formed a coalition with three parties that had participated in previous governments. The Justice and Development Party has been around since 1967 and has had a past affiliation with the Muslim Brotherhood. While party is a conservative Islamist, it supports the democratic process and expresses fervent Moroccan nationalism. Fizazi was an outspoken and fervent proponent of Jihadi Salafism who was detained and questioned by Moroccan security forces following the 2003 Casablanca bombing in which 45 people were killed. He was pardoned by King Muhammad VI in April 2011. He has used social media to criticize others in the past. Earlier this year, Fizazi launched a battle of words with Mayssa Salama Ennaji, a blogger who spoke out on what she considered to be corruption. Fizazi address Ennaji as 'kowaytiba' meaning little female blogger.'
