India is best value location for int'l and domestic flights

(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) The UAE offers the worlds most expensive domestic flight prices per 100km of travel, while India clocks in with the least expensive tickets, says a latest study.

The Kiwi.com research, which took into account over one million international and domestic journeys, ranked the UAE the most expensive at a cost over 30 times higher than India at $105.71 per 100km of travel.

The new status for the UAE comes close on the heels of a milestone achieved by its national carrier Etihad on May 1 when it launched a flight route between New York City and Mumbai via Abu Dhabi, offering the worlds most expensive flight with the shortest connecting time at $38,000 for a one-way ticket or $76,000 for a return flight.

Kiwi.com credits India as the best value location for international and domestic flights worldwide. The country averaged a flight cost of $3.25 per 100km of travel. India also offers the least expensive domestic flights on both low-cost and legacy airlines, at $2.27 and $2.67, respectively, per 100km of travel.

The Czech-based comparison site ranks Malaysia, Russia, Portugal and Indonesia as the next cheapest flight providers in the world. At the other end of the scale, Japan, the Netherlands, Qatar and Finland rank before the UAE as the most expensive.

Canada offered the most expensive international flights on both low-cost and legacy airlines, at $43.70 and $94.66, respectively, per 100km of travel.

China offered the least expensive international flights on both low cost and legacy airlines, at $1.22 and $2.84 respectively per 100km of travel.

The Aviation Price Index is a guide to the costs of air travel around the globe, said Kiwi.coms CEO Oliver Dlouh.

We always aim to offer travellers the best possible deals, and hope this ranking informs customers on the countries from which they can expect the most cost-effective airfare, and assist them in booking.

To calculate the rankings, Kiwi.com analysed over a million flights to find an average price of domestic and international flights on a low-cost and a legacy airline from each of the countries.

Domestic flights were calculated by finding an average of flight costs from the countrys capital to up to five major cities within the country, or a major city in a neighbouring country where no domestic flights were available, while international costs were calculated from the capital of each country to up to five international hubs within the same continent.

The study disclosed the10 countries offering the least expensive flights are:
