Minister welcomes 150 new Qatari teachers

DOHA: Minister of Education and Higher Education, H E Dr Mohammed Abdul Wahed Al Hammadi yesterday received 150 new Qatari teachers of Independent Schools at a ceremony held at Marriott Hotel.

The teachers who are going to join the three levels of education include those graduated from different Qatar-based teachers training programs such as Teacher for Qatar, 'Tomoh” (ambition) programme, as well as retired teachers and graduates from the College of Education, Qatar University.

'We are happy to see you joining the education sector despite the wide range of career choices in response to national programmes like 'Teach For Qatar”, 'Tomoh” programme in collaboration with QU, and the programme of ' Helping Teacher” in collaboration with Community College,” said the Minister addressing the teachers joining independent schools during the new academic year 2016/17.

' As new teachers you are going to deal with students from different cultural backgrounds, attitudes and desires giving consideration of individual differences at class levels. And your role is to create the new generation and make the school environment healthy and attractive encouraging students to develop their skills and find out the reasons obstructing their growth,” said the minister.

'Qatar";s development does not depend on its financial and natural resources only but on the development of its manpower to achieve sustainable development,” said Minister H E Dr. Mohammed Abdul Wahed Al Hammadi.

Although we have sophisticated technology in our schools, the role of the teacher will remain the cornerstone. To improve our education system the ministry established special departments for teacher";s affairs, training and support centre to enhance teachers professions, Guidance department to develop polices helping education development, and enforced policies to ensure accountability and student";s conducts.

To ensure teachers"; participation in decision making the ministry created advisory committees for teachers and for school directors.

'Our aim of all these initiatives is to improve the quality of education, education input and output through which we can achieve our national goals,” said the Minister. He assured that the ministry will make attracting Qatari teachers a top priority by building capacities on areas of interest and granting promotion chances.

'Teachers always need to answer several questions related to their career raised by new teachers and the students they teach; why we teach and why we learn,” said senior teacher Aisha Shahbeek, addressing the gathering.

'We are aware that teaching is a highly valued career and teacher has a mission and we are here today to sustain what the elder teachers have planted and harvest together the outcomes,” said Nura Al Qahtani, speaking on behalf of her colleagues.
